Remote Logging
This software requires application 277 or greater
You can use the free edition of Kiwi Syslog Server to receive log messages
from up to 5 encoders or decoders.
- Download and install the Kiwi Syslog Server software.
You need to scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the Download
button under the Email field.
We suggest installing the Kiwi Syslog Server as a Application (not a service).
- Modify the Windows Firewall
During the installation process it modified the Windows Firewall and added
itself as "Public" access, but not "Private" access. To see syslog messages
from your private network you need to go to the Windows Control Panel and go
to the Firewall app to edit the Kiwi Syslog Server to allow Private access.
- Download SyslogServerSettings.ini to your desktop.
- Configure Kiwi Syslog Server with
SyslogServerSettings.ini file.
The Firewall on the encoder and decoder sends syslog messages as priority
user.debug. We created two rules for the Kiwi Server to save user.debug
messages separate from all other messages in the SyslogServerSettings.ini
file.
Use the File->Import setting from INI file to import the
SyslogServerSettings.ini file.
- When the encoder or decoder sends messages to the Kiwi server there will two displays, see
- The Kiwi server saves the logs to
C:\Program Files\Syslogd\Logs.
- Point your Web browser to the System->Syslog Conf
menu on the encoder and decoder web GUI to enabled the System Log to be
sent to a remote IP address.
- To enable the decoder to log additional network status,
do the following:
- Download
LogUnrecovered.pkg to your desktop to log only packets that ARQ did not recover.
- Download
enable_more_decoder_logging.pkg to your desktop to log all dropped packets.
- Point your Web browser to the System->Update menu on the decoder
web GUI to install the LogUnrecovered or enable_more_decoder_logging.pkg file, as desired.
